The weather forecast for the week is a rather mixed bag

It may be raining in some places at the moment, but that won’t be the whole story of the week.

The week ahead isn’t going to set the pulse racing, but there’s reason not to be too downbeat over what’s coming.

Monday evening has been wet in many parts of the country, but this rain will spread southwards overnight and leave the country mostly dry for the rest of the night.

Tuesday promises to be a bright and fresh day, but showers will be present in the afternoon. Thankfully these will be very scattered with temperatures of 14 to 17 degrees with a westerly breeze.

Temperatures will fall on Tuesday night to cooler than recent nights with mist and fog patches forming.

Wednesday and Thursday will be similar days, with bright and sunny spells in the mornings, but showers will become widespread in the afternoon with the risk of these thundery in some areas.

Top temperatures will range from 15 to 18 degrees during the day but will drop to between five and nine degrees overnight.

Further on, Friday and Saturday look like promising dry days with bright spells and slightly warmer temperatures of between 17 and 20 degrees.

Hopefully that will extend to Sunday and we’ll have a dry day for the All-Ireland Hurling Final in Croke Park.
