Have the sun cream ready because the weather is going to get very hot this week

But it's not going to last...

weather this weekend

The week is set to start off on a hot and bright note before taking a fairly rapid turn for the worse.

The fine weather enjoyed by much of the country at the weekend is set to continue at the start of this week, with temperatures reaching the high 20s on Monday and Tuesday.

According to Met Éireann, fog patches early on Monday will give way to what is promised to be a dry and sunny day, with temperatures reaching as high as 25 degrees.

There will also be no little or no wind to speak of, apart from moderate breezes in coastal areas.

Tuesday is promised even hotter with highs of up to 27 degrees in the afternoon in inland areas, but conditions will begin to turn heading into Tuesday evening, with the possibility of thundery showers in the east and south.

By Wednesday, the entire country will experience the change in the weather, with a forecast of heavy rain and cooler conditions than earlier in the week, conditions that will continue into Thursday.

Temperatures are expected to increase once more heading into the weekend, where the forecast is for unsettled conditions with the possibility of rain and showers throughout.
