Maybe you should have an extra blanket at the ready tonight.

Weather warnings are in place across the country, with temperatures expected to drop to -8 tonight.

A Status Yellow low temperature/ice warning is in place for all of Ireland, with “hazardous icy conditions” expected in certain places.

Widespread severe frost is also expected and pockets of freezing fog, according to Met Éireann.

The warning is in place from 5pm on Friday until noon on Saturday, with conditions set to improve as Saturday goes on.

A similar warning was issued by the UK Met Office, with icy conditions expected in Armagh, Antrim, Down, Fermanagh, Tyrone and Derry.

Temperatures are expected to plummet to as low as -8 degrees and possibly even colder on Friday night in what will be the coldest conditions experienced in Ireland for some time.

With fog also forming in some areas, conditions will be treacherous on Friday night and throughout Saturday, when temperatures are not expected to exceed 4 degrees during the day before dipping below freezing once again on Saturday night.

So make sure you’ve got a few layers on you going to bed tonight.
