Status Yellow warning issued for 7 counties with “severe” winds on the way

Weather warning

Take care out there.

It’s the weekend and the weather is quite a mixed bag so far.

As I type this, it’s pretty sunny and mild and bright in that ‘crisp not quite winter, not quite spring’ way, which is really rather nice, actually.

However.

With at least one Status Yellow warning already highlighted in advance, Met Éireann has gone ahead and issued another.

The new warning concerns strong winds with some “severe” gusts on the horizon.

Seven counties in total are affected – Cork, Waterford, Dublin, Louth, Meath, Wexford and Wicklow.

According to the national forecaster, strong southeast winds with severe gusts of between 90 and 110 kilometres per hour are anticipated across Saturday afternoon and into the evening.

The winds should prove strongest in coastal areas.

The warning is valid from 3pm on Saturday and will remain in place until 9pm.

As noted, a separate Status Yellow weather warning is in the mix, too.

Also set to come into effect on Saturday afternoon, this warning covers Carlow, Kilkenny, Wexford, Wicklow, Cork, Kerry, Tipperary and Waterford.

The warning is valid from 3pm on Saturday until 9am on Sunday morning.

Met Éireann has said heavy rain and strong winds will bring a risk of flooding and hazardous conditions to these counties, so be advised.

In addition to the above, the UK Met Office has issued a Status Yellow wind warning of its own.

This warning concerns Antrim and Down, and will be valid from 3am on Sunday until 2pm that afternoon.

Strong winds may cause transport and coastal disruption, warns the Met Office.
