Or maybe we’re idiots for still being surprised.

The summer of 2018 has been the hottest Irish summer in many of our lifetimes, and the typical Irish cold and rain has been in no rush to return, even as we enter September.

Still, this week has been notably chillier than what we’ve grown accustomed to in recent months.

Met Éireann has forecasted that things will actually pick back up again by the weekend though, and we can expect temperatures in the high teens.

According to their most recent national forecast: “Friday is looking largely dry with sunny spells and light breezes. Towards evening rain will arrive in the southwest. Maximum temperatures of 14 to 18 degrees with moderate westerly winds. On Friday night rain in the southwest will spread across the country, though it looks like the rain will be intermittent and mostly light.

“Saturday: Some rain in the east and south at first but latest indications are that it will gradually brighten up with some sunshine breaking through. Highest temperatures of 15 to 19 degrees in mostly light breezes.

“Sunday: Patchy rain affecting western counties but elsewhere a good deal of dry weather expected with sunny spells. Maximum temperatures of 15 to 19 degrees in moderate to fresh westerly winds.”
