weather warning

It’s still going to be hot this weekend, but it’s going to be wet too.

The recent glorious spell of weather many parts of Ireland have been enjoying in recent days will come to an inevitable end this weekend.

As far as the temperatures are concerned, it will still feel like summer, but the warm air will be accompanied by thundery showers that will hit most of the country on Friday and Saturday.

Friday will once again be a scorcher, with temperatures hitting 25 degrees in places, but thundery showers will break out over parts of west Ulster, Connacht and west Munster on Friday afternoon.

Friday night will be warm and muggy, signalling the threat of what’s coming on Saturday, when thundery showers will affect most of the country.

Met Éireann have issued a status yellow weather warning for the entire province of Leinster, Cavan and Monaghan, which is valid from 3am on Saturday morning until 3pm on Saturday afternoon, with heavy and thundery downpours leading to accumulations of 20-30mm of rainfall.

A separate status yellow weather warning has been issued for Donegal from midnight on Friday night until 6pm on Saturday, with up to 30mm of rainfall expected in the county, particularly in mountainous areas.

Conditions will start to ease on Saturday evening and the temperature is set to drop as well, leading to a fresher day on Sunday, which is set to be dry and sunny for the most part with light breezes and temperatures reaching as high as 20 degrees.

Best prepare for every eventuality if you’re venturing out of doors in the next few days.
