Good news because parts of Ireland look set to bask in 20 degree heat over the weekend

Paul Moore

Deadly news. Start making those plans.

Ah, what to do when the sun comes out? Head to the beach? Grab a few cans? Plonk yourself in the nearest beer garden and refuse to leave until you turn a nice ‘Pinchy the Lobster’ colour? There are so many choices.

As previously reported, we had no idea what to say when Met Éireann were forecasting temperatures of up to 18 degrees this week and as many as five consecutive days of sunshine and their latest update may cause a few people to lose the run of themselves with such an amount of sun.

Truth be told, we expect some people to be cynical about that news, especially since there have been scattered showers this afternoon with thunder in places but things will pick up.

Tonight is expected to be dry although some outbreaks of rain and drizzle will move up from the south by dawn. Standard.

Wednesday is expected to be a quintessentially Irish day on the weather front with persistent rain in western coastal counties and other areas, but there’s going to be sunny breaks too.

Things begin to pick up on Thursday though because it’s predicted to be “a dry day with good sunshine and highs of 15 to 17 degrees.” There’s even better news because the mercury is expected to rise even further in the following days.

Friday will see “highs of 14 to 17 degrees in light variable breezes” but Saturday looks set to be a belter. Here’s what Met Éireann has said: “Mostly dry with sunny spells but a few showers may break out near the West and Southwest coast. Light to moderate East to Southeast breezes. Max 16 to 18 degrees generally but possibly up to 20 degrees in parts of the West.”

Ok, for anyone in the West that fancies a beer garden, Saturday has all of the following; West Brom vs Liverpool, Man Utd vs Spurs (FA Cup), Hibernian vs Celtic, Sevilla vs Barcelona (Copa Del Rey final), Ulster vs Glasgow (Rabo) and Leinster vs Scarlets (Champions Cup).

So, pint in the sunshine?
