A man in his 30s has been arrested after an assault took place in The Market area of the town.
A woman in her late 20s is in critical condition in hospital after an assault at the Market in Ennis on Thursday evening.
Gardaí were alerted to the assault at approximately 6.20pm on Thursday evening (28 January) and the woman was taken to University Hospital Limerick with what were described as serious injuries.
It was later reported the woman was in a critical condition.
A man in his mid 30s was arrested a short time later and is being detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984 at Shannon Garda Station.
Gardaí are appealing to anybody who may have witnessed this incident or were in the Market area of Ennis between 5.30pm and 6.30pm to contact them.
