Woman in Dublin scammed out of money and All-Ireland final tickets

all-ireland ticket scam

This is sickening.

A woman in Dublin was the victim of a scam this week involving All-Ireland final tickets.

Siobhan phoned RTÉ Radio 1’s Liveline to explain how she had been conned out of €420 by a man who claimed he had tickets for the Dublin vs Kerry game this weekend.

She got in touch with the man after seeing a post online wherein he claimed he worked in the GAA and had access to tickets, but only wanted to sell them to genuine fans.

Siobhan explained that she wanted the tickets for herself and her 14-year-old daughter, who is an avid Dublin fan and had attended many games with her father before he passed away.

They arranged to meet in Dublin and go to the GAA ticket office on Dorset Street where they would collect the five tickets; one Premium level, two Cusack Stand and two Hill tickets.

Siobhan was minding her neighbour’s three children and told him she would be bringing them along too, which he said was no problem whatsoever. Siobhan said that the man was well-dressed, chatty and promised the kids that they could have a tour of the stadium when they were finished.

When they reached the ticket office, he asked if he could go in alone as he wasn’t supposed to be selling tickets. Siobhan gave the man the money to get the tickets, then sat with the kids outside a coffee shop a few yards away.

While she checked on the kids, the man disappeared and that was the last she saw of him.

Siobhan said a report has been made to the Gardaí and the Dublin County Board and she also said she will be following up with the GAA.

But she also expressed her annoyance at herself for being scammed, and the callousness of the man who knew about the tragic reason why she wanted the tickets but proceeded to scam her anyway.
