Woman with MS claims she was tied to a wheelchair by Delta Airlines after a flight

Alan Loughnane

What the hell?!

A Delta Airlines passenger with multiple sclerosis says airline employees tied her to her wheelchair with a “dirty blanket,” leaving bruises on her arm, because they didn’t have the correct equipment for the flight.

Maria Saliagas claims that employees tied her to her wheelchair because she can’t sit up on her own and they didn’t have the chair she needed with straps to support her.

She said Delta normally helps her by making sure staff members have a proper wheelchair that has straps to help her sit up straight.

Instead, employees “took a dirty blanket and tied her forcefully with it,” Saliagas’s son, Nathan Saliagas, told WFTV.

“She has bruise marks on part of her arm because it was so tight and she started crying,” Nathan said.

He also claims a member of staff cursed at her when she started crying.

Maria Saliagas travels to Europe every year with her husband, and told WFTV that she and her husband have made an annual trip to Europe ever since she was diagnosed with MS five years ago to maintain their tradition of traveling together.

A Delta Airlines representative sent WSB-TV a statement about the incident, saying:

“We regret the perception our service has left on these customers. We have reached out to them, not only to resolve their concerns, but also ensure that their return flight exceeds expectations.”
