An absolutely horrible story.

A woman who is said to have been about eight months pregnant has been stabbed to death in south London.

According to the BBC, Scotland Yard said her baby had been delivered by paramedics and taken to hospital.

The child remains in a critical condition.

The incident occurred on Saturday afternoon, at roughly 3.30pm, at a home in Croydon.

The woman was pronounced dead at the scene of the crime, and a 37-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of murder.

Mayor of London Sadiq Khan took to Twitter to pay his condolences following the incident, saying that “violence against women has no place” in London.

Detective Chief Inspector Mick Norman described the stabbing as “a horrific incident” and said the force’s “sympathies go out to (the woman’s) devastated family”.

Police have said that the woman’s next of kin have been informed, and that a post-mortem examination would be held in due course.
