Yellow gale warning Ireland

This weekend’s weather is a bit of a mixed bag…

Met Éireann has issued a status yellow warning as strong winds continue to batter coasts across the country.

The warning, issued at 6am on Friday 14 December, advises that southeast winds will increase to gale force during the morning on coasts from Loop Head to Erris Head to Malin Head.

This will extend to all coasts as the day unfolds.

A separate nationwide status yellow warning will come into place on Saturday at midnight and will be in effect for a 24-hour period.

That warning concerns “potential for severe weather”, noting that “hazardous conditions may result from heavy rain, and possibly wind, also.”

As for Friday, the forecast is cloudy with patchy rain and drizzle coming in from the west and turning heavy later in the day.

Winds are expected to be moderate to fresh in southeasterly regions and will increase in strength over the course of Friday.

Highest temperatures of seven to 12 degrees are expected.

Saturday will be generally wet with heavy rain in all areas and quite windy with highs of nine to 13 degrees.

Sunday, meanwhile, will be mostly dry with sunny spells and some isolated showers. Temperatures will be cool enough with five to seven degrees forecast.
