Yellow Vest Ireland demands Leo Varadkar

“The time to stand together has come.”

Having unsuccessfully attempted to block the Port Tunnel in Dublin on Saturday, Yellow Vest Ireland has detailed their official list of demands.

Describing itself as both grassroots and leaderless, the new movement takes inspiration from similar protest groups in France and the UK as they look to “affect meaningful change” in Ireland.

“The yellow vest movement is about individuals coming together regardless of difference in opinion and past divisions, uniting and speaking out en masse to tackle Varadkar’s government,” reads part of their manifesto, issued via Facebook.

“No longer shall we accept cold, cruel bureaucracy as a legitimate reason to use force against those struggling to keep a roof over their head,” the statement continues.

“No longer will we tolerate corruption, cronyism and political deception. No longer will we allow our people to suffer for want in this isle of plenty.”

The movement goes on to insist that action be taken “immediately” in relation to their demands, of which 18 are listed in total.

One such demand is that Taoiseach Leo Varadkar declare a general election and subsequently resign from his position.

The group has also called for Minister for Health Simon Harris and the HSE staff responsible for the cervical cancer scandal to resign.

In addition, Yellow Vest Ireland has appealed for the abolition of vulture funds, the removal of the TV licence and the legalisation of medicinal cannabis.

“Take to your streets, roads and bridges,” concludes the statement.

“The time to stand together has come. The time to defend our children’s future has arrived. We are stronger than our divisions.”

Meanwhile, a similar list relating to yellow vest protestors in the UK surfaced over the weekend, detailing quite an odd rundown of what they claim to stand for.

In Paris on Saturday, police deployed the use of tear gas and water cannons in order to tackle thousands of yellow vest demonstrators who assembled for a ninth straight weekend.
