Met Éireann issues status yellow weather warning for five counties

Yellow wind warning

A wild evening ahead for some.

In a reminder that it’s STILL JANUARY, Met Éireann has issued a status yellow wind warning for five counties.

The affected counties in question are DonegalGalwayMayoSligo and Clare.

Met Éireann notes that southwest winds, veering westerly, will hit mean speeds of 50 – 65 kilometres per hour with gusts of up to 100 kilometres per hour on Friday night and throughout Saturday morning.

The warning is valid from today (Friday 31 January) at 5pm until Saturday at noon.

Additionally, status yellow gale and small craft warnings are in effect, with southwest winds expected to reach gale force on Friday afternoon and evening on coasts from Mizen Head to Slyne Head to Malin Head, continuing overnight.
