You may have noticed that it is a little ‘fresh’ outside this morning, but temperatures are set to drop even further with snow on the way.

Many will have felt the chill in the air this morning as parts of the country experienced wintery showers, with temperatures plummeting to -4C in certain parts. Showers of rain and sleet will continue until noon, while Thursday and Friday will see more widespread sleet showers.

Speaking to the Irish Independent, Met Eireann weather forecaster Evelyn Cusack has said that this morning could be the worst day of the week, with further bad weather expected at the weekend.

“There will be plenty of wintry showers this morning,” she said.

“These showers, which will occur over the next few hours, will not be widespread. They will also be expected at the weekend,” she added.

With widespread sleet and snow on the way – there was overnight snow around Roscommon and Monaghan Towns, Tullamore in Co. Offaly and Dundalk in Co. Louth – AA Roadwatch and the Gardai have advised motorists to take extra precautions in the conditions.

So wrap up well and take due care on the road.
