You’ll never walk alone – World Champion celebrates victory with his nearest and dearest

Homenews

Rob Heffernan put in one the great Irish sporting performances to claim gold today in Moscow and his wife and fellow athlete Marian was first up to congratulate the victor.

Rob was rewarded for his years of tireless work and dedication with victory in the 50km walk race and proved that last year’s disappointment in London after agonisingly missing out on a medal – still a momentous achievement in itself – was firmly put to bed. He finished a whopping 62 seconds ahead of Mikhail Rhyzov in second place and grew into the race as it developed leaving his competitors trailing in his wake. No sooner had he crossed the line than his wife Marian was there to congratulate the Corkman who became our first world champion since Sonia O’Sullivan in 1995. 14th IAAF World Athletics Championships Moscow 2013 - Day Five A great day for the Heffernans, a great day for Irish athletics.
