Irish people are getting a lot of STIs according to new report

JOE

Worrying…

Ireland has the second highest rate of gonorrhea in Europe according to a new report about health in the EU.

The report, Health at a Glance: Europe 2016, was created by The Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) and European Commission.

We had a similar report yesterday which showed the high usage of cocaine among young people in Ireland, but not quite as high as the UK.

It’s a similar case today as Ireland once again ranks behind the UK, but we’ve a feeling that Irish people will be delighted of that in the latest report.

The UK has the highest number of reported cases of gonorrhea in Europe with 59.7 new cases reported from 100,000 population.

But Ireland is ranked second on the list, although some distance behind, with 28.3 new cases reported. The EU average stands at 20 new cases per 100,000 population.

Gonor

Gonorrhea is a sexually transmitted infection (STI) that can infect both men and women. It can cause infections in the genitals, rectum, and throat and is particularly common among 15-24 year-olds.

Symptoms in men may include a burning sensation when urinating, a white, yellow, or green discharge from the penis and swelling of the testicles. But it’s quite common for to be no visible symptoms at all.

Untreated gonorrhea can cause sterility in men in rare cases.
