We’re never going to turn our nose down at a little bit of extra cash but if you’re living in Wexford or Kerry, those post-Christmas bills could be a lot easier to pay.

The National Lottery are appealing to its players from those two counties to check their tickets and see if they have landed two major prizes, totalling €539,861.

In terms of the most recent draw, a player from Kerry came agonisingly close to winning the €5.2 million Lotto jackpot. Ultimately, they won €289,861 after matching five numbers and the bonus.

The numbers for that draw were; 7, 33, 34, 37, 45, 46 and 42.

Elsewhere, another lucky duck from Wexford scooped the top prize of €250,000 on the Lotto Plus 2 draw.

The numbers for the Lotto Plus 2 draw were; 1, 4, 17, 21, 28, 37 and 13.

The Kerry ticketholder bought their golden ticket in Buckley’s Great Gas, East End, Ballybunion.

The store owner Padraig Buckle has said: “It is great news this morning and there is a great buzz in Ballybunion. It is the second major Lottery win for the town in the past six months, as last June another local won €500,000 on EuroMillions. We are delighted to have sold this Lotto ticket and we’ve been spreading the word all morning to customers to get checking their tickets. We’ve no idea who the winner could be but I wish them all the best!”

As for the winning Lotto Plus 2 ticket in Wexford, that was purchased in the Tesco store on Distillery Road, Wexford.

A spokesperson for the National Lottery said: “It is some fantastic news to wake up to on this bitter cold January morning. We are advising all our Wexford and Kerry players to carefully check their Lotto tickets and if you do happen to be one of those two lucky ticketholders, be sure to sign the back of the ticket, keep this valuable piece of paper safe and contact our prize claims team on 01 836 4444 and we will make arrangements for you to come to the National Lottery to get your prize”.

There was no overall winner of the €5,211,766 jackpot, which will roll to an estimated €5.5 million for the next draw on Wednesday, 23 January.
