Boris Johnson expected to quit today (Report)
The Prime Minister has woken to a wave of fresh resignations on Thursday.
Boris Johnson is expected to quit as UK Prime Minister on Thursday, a day that began with eight more resignations.
Johnson has reportedly agreed to resign, but wants to stay on until a new Tory leader is elected by autumn, the Guardian reports.
Sky News said that Johnson had been told that he can not "fill his government because he could not replace people in his cabinet and that it was simply not sustainable for him to carry on".
While the broadcaster said Johnson was "amicable with colleagues and was trying to encourage people to hang in there with him" on Wednesday, the tide turned on Thursday.
A number of people in the Johnson's top team are now "saying that they realise the game is up, that it’s done and that it’s over for the Prime Minister".
"They are now moving to the point where they try and persuade him to resign and my source tells me we should expect a resignation from the prime minister today," Sky News reported.
Eight ministers quit on Thursday, including the new Chancellor, Nadhim Zahawi, Brandon Lewis, the Northern Ireland Secretary, and Education Secretary Michelle Donelan .
Prime Minister: this is not sustainable and it will only get worse: for you, for the Conservative Party and most importantly of all the country. You must do the right thing and go now. pic.twitter.com/F2iKT1PhvC
