The general election campaign is officially underway with voters set to go to the polls on Saturday, 8 February.
Taoiseach Leo Varadkar is set to ask President Michael D Higgins to dissolve the Dáil later today.
It’s understood the Taoiseach told his cabinet the election date during their meeting on Tuesday morning.

The Taoiseach had previously told RTÉ at the weekend that he had already decided on the election date.
It was expected Varadkar would dissolve the Dáil before it sat again on Wednesday.
