New York Times journalists Michael D Shear and Julie Hirschfield Davis have written a book about US President Donald Trump, and it features a number of serious allegations.

Most notably, the book claims that Trump wanted migrants crossing the border to be shot in the leg “to slow them down”.

He was quickly informed that this would be illegal.

The book alleges that Trump also called for the infamous wall that he wanted to be built to be fortified with electric spikes “that could pierce human flesh”, as well a a water-filled trench to be stocked with snakes or alligators.

This apparently got to the point that White House aides allegedly sought a “cost-estimate” for the alligator-filled trench.

According to the New York Times, Trump also publicly threatened to shut down the entire 2,000-mile border with Mexico in a matter of hours, before being told that this would leave children stranded at schools on both sides of the border, with an economic meltdown also on the cards.

Trump was then alleged to have said:

“You are making me look like an idiot! I ran on this. It’s my issue.”

This book itself is based on interviews with more than a dozen White House and administration officials who have dealt with Trump on a daily basis.

Border Wars: Inside Trump’s Assault on Immigration will be released on 8 October, 2019.
