And no, this is not an April Fool’s joke.

Twitter can be an incredibly entertaining place at times.

Sure, it can often be a toxic environment and is a forum for sometimes pointless, sometimes infuriating and sometimes mean-spirited arguments, but it does have its upsides.

News breaks there quicker than anywhere else. It’s the birthplace of some of the most hilarious jokes in the history of the internet. And it can also provide you with content that you otherwise never would have imagined.

For example, actor Jim Carrey having a public feud with Benito Mussolini’s granddaughter.

It began when Carrey shared a graphic cartoon that he designed, alongside the caption: “If you’re wondering what fascism leads to, just ask Benito Mussolini and his mistress Claretta.”

This led to Alessandra Mussolini simply replying: “You are a bastard”.

Carrey, who did not respond to the MEP’s online slur, has been sharing his political cartoon drawings since August 2017, and has previously taken aim at Donald Trump, White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders, and America’s gun policy in the past.

Mussolini ruled Italy as Prime Minister from 1922 to 1943, but was killed by an Italian communist partisan on 28 April 1945 after attempting to flee to Switzerland.
