Very powerful words from the Dublin TD.

Joan Collins, who represents the Irish Independents 4 Change party, pulled no punches with at an attack on Fine Gael and Fianna Fáil in the Dáil on Wednesday afternoon.

Addressing TDs from both parties, Collins voiced her outrage with Budget 2020 and in particular, issues such as the poverty gap and the homeless and housing crises.

“More people are homeless, more people are on waiting lists, rents are soaring out of control, the poverty gap is growing,” Collins, a TD for the Dublin South-Central constituency since the 2011 general election, said.

“This budget says loudly, ‘Crisis, what crisis?’

“I know that there are very few here from Fianna Fáil and Fine Gael, you’re not here, you’re not listening, you don’t care. And to put it bluntly, for the amount of phone calls I’ve got from constituents in the last 24 hours, youse just don’t really give a fuck and it’s just absolutely outrageous that this is actually happening and people are being subjected to this budget.”

Having been rebuked for her language by Leas-Cheann Comhairle Pat The Cope Gallagher, Collins responded: “OK, I accept that Leas-Cheann Comhairle, but I’m very angry and when you see people coming through your door in your constituency office and they are absolutely on their knees and this government brings in a budget like this?”
