It worked for Arnie so it could work for McGregor, right?

That was basically the gist of the Taoiseach’s response when asked if The Notorious had a future in politics at the South by South West (SXSW) festival in Austin on Sunday.

Varadkar, as you’ll probably know by now, ran into Schwarzenegger when both were speaking at the event on Sunday and TMZ Sports couldn’t resist the opportunity to ask whether McGregor might follow the same career path as the man sometimes known as ‘The Governator’.

“You never know, stranger things have happened,” Varadkar replied.

“Just met Arnold Schwarzenegger… first time I met him yeah, he was an awesome man, actor, career in politics afterwards and he was a good Governor so anything’s possible.”

TMZ’s question appears to have been based on some recent politically-charged social media posts by McGregor, including a Facebook post in which he said he is “becoming more and more interested in where much of the money in my home state has gone and where it actually goes when it comes in”.

“Now as I get older at 29 years of age, I find that I am becoming more and more interested in where much of the money in my home state has gone and where it actually goes when it comes in,” McGregor wrote.

“There are more and more things I see daily that do not add up.

“I see many things I do not like and I see many things that I feel can be easily amended under correct instruction.

“We shall see.

“Stay woke at all times kids.”
