The President of Ireland has asked people for their vote.

The Presidential ballot has been finalised, thus confirming the six candidates running in the upcoming election.

Peter Casey, Sean Gallgher, Gavin Duffy, Joan Freeman, Liadh Ní Riada and current President of Ireland Michael D. Higgins will be on the ballot on 26 October.

Following this news, President Higgins has released a short video on his Twitter page urging people to vote for him come October.

The video was posted alongside the caption: “I am asking for your support on October 26th. All my life I have campaigned, argued and fought for a real Republic. This is about our shared future – Michael D. Higgins.”

Have a look at the video for yourself here:

In the video, Higgins claims that: “Since 2011, I have worked tirelessly to honour the trust the electorate placed in me. At all times I have sought to draw on my experience, judgement and imagination.”

This isn’t the President’s only social media activity today.

He also recently set up an Instagram account so we can keep up to date with his presidential campaign.

No pictures of his two dogs just yet though…
