Micheál Martin supports removing the 8th amendment after carefully examining the evidence

He’s changed his tune significantly.

Micheál Martin TD shocked the Dáil on Thursday afternoon following a hearty endorsement of repealing the controversial Eighth Amendment on abortion.

The Fianna Fáil TD told the Dáil on Thursday afternoon: “Retaining the 8th amendment will not make Ireland a country without abortion.”

“I support the idea of a time based cut off towards the end of the first trimester. After that we need exceptions for FFA.”

“We must each question how far we are willing to go to impose our will on others. We each have a duty to be willing to question our own views.”

Martin recently refused to confirm that he would vote ‘No’ in any such referendum, but stressed that he comes from a Pro-Life background.

The move is being hailed as “historic” and is believed to be an extremely brave move from the Cork-native who might end up putting himself at odds with the majority of his party.

These quotes are a far-cry from Martin’s original response to the question of abortion on incest some eight months ago.
