Minister of Foreign Affairs Simon Coveney has been nominated as the new Tánaiste by Leo Varadkar.
The Taoiseach made his announcement in the Dáil this afternoon.
Former Arts Minister Heather Humphries is to be moved to the Minister for Business role and Josepha Madigan TC has been promoted to Cabinet, meaning she will now hold the position of Minister for Culture, Heritage and the Gaeltacht.
The move follows the resignation of Frances Fitzgerald which happened on Tuesday of this week.
Deputy Fitzgerald took the decision to stand down following a week of criticism and a vote of no confidence from opposition parties over her handling of a case involving Garda whistleblower Maurice McCabe.
