Donald Trump threatens to “obliterate” Turkey’s economy if it does anything he considers “off limits”

“In my great and unmatched wisdom…”

It really does take something special to puncture the dense cloud of aggressive apathy that most people have built up in relation to the Twitter habits of US President Donald Trump.

He tweets so much, and so much of it is now just a kind of base-level of Trump Tweets (which, to be fair, if it were literally anyone else, would probably be a cause for major concern), that it does require something with a little extra OOMPH to warrant conversation.

Remember last week when he used Nickelback in one his tweets, and they didn’t care for that and invoked a copyright law to get it taken down? That kind of thing.

So when we say that this might be one of the most aggressively threatening and potentially dangerous tweets that Trump has ever sent, then you know we’re not kidding around.

Following his decision to remove US forces from Syria – just as Turkey plans to launch a military operation in the region – many in the US government are concerned that a withdrawal could result in US allies being vulnerable to a slaughter, as well as continuing to damage America’s relationship with its partners in the region and potentially laying the foundation for a resurgence of ISIS.

Instead of dealing with any fears in a professional and private manner, Trump took the whole thing to Twitter.

“As I have stated strongly before, and just to reiterate, if Turkey does anything that I, in my great and unmatched wisdom, consider to be off limits, I will totally destroy and obliterate the Economy of Turkey (I’ve done before!).

“They must, with Europe and others, watch over the captured ISIS fighters and families. The U.S. has done far more than anyone could have ever expected, including the capture of 100% of the ISIS Caliphate. It is time now for others in the region, some of great wealth, to protect their own territory. THE USA IS GREAT!”

So not only is he saying he will ruin an entire country’s economy, but seems to be boasting about having done it before.

Oh, and America is still great, in case you’d forgotten.
