A Cork man has been named as the world’s best goalkeeper in hockey

A brilliant achievement for David Harte.

Cork man David Harte has been named as the world’s best goalkeeper at the Hockey Stars 2015 awards; the first ever Irish player to achieve such an accolade.

The Irish Examiner have reported Harte’s tremendous accomplishment, after the 27-year-old helped Ireland qualify for their first Olympic Games in over 100 years.

Harte, who grew up just outside Kinsale in Cork, is a world renowned ‘keeper who was part of the Irish team that came third at the recent European Championships, while winning Goalkeeper of the Tournament in all three of the major competitions he competed in last year.

Harte plays professionally in Europe and South Asia and is currently the most expensive goalkeeper in the Indian League, where he was also voted the most entertaining player.
