And to think Lewandowski could be a Championship player with Blackburn

He may be the man of the moment after his four goal haul last night, but Robert Lewandowski can thank the volcanic ash cloud in part for his success.

He may be the man of the moment after his four goal haul last night, but Robert Lewandowski can thank the volcanic ash cloud in part for his success.

The Borussia Dortmund striker was in top form last night as he helped the German side take a 4-1 lead into the return leg at Madrid, but things could have been oh so different had not Mother Nature intervened.

Back in 2010 you may recall the volcanic ash cloud situation that greatly disrupted flights for a period of around 12 and causing havoc particularly in Europe. Back then Lewandowski was a Lech Poznan player, but Blackburn Rovers had their eyes on the £4million rated striker and invited him to come and watch a Premier League match with Everton before opening negotiations.

ESPN reported at the time that the striker also made a trip to Italy to watch Sampdoria and Genoa the previous week, but was a prime target for Rovers. Unfortunately for the club the player’s agent said that he would prefer a move to Dortmund for his player as he was simply looking for the biggest fee he could get for Poznan.

A pretty good call that, though the Polish ace would be a good man to help the Lancashire club stave off relegation to League 1.
