We didn’t think it was possible for our admiration of the man to go any higher, but this morning, it went up a notch.

Despite being in the middle of intense preparations for the crunch match with France in Paris this weekend – BOD’s last ever Irish international… sniff, sniff – the great man still found time to make an impromptu call into the Ray D’Arcy show on Today FM to make the day of two of his biggest fans.

The fans in question – Niall and Michelle – had met many of the Irish team at a post-match dinner at the Four Seasons Hotel following the game against Italy on Saturday night, but had missed out on meeting the man they wanted to meet the most, O’Driscoll himself, despite, as you’ll see in the pic below, being incredibly close to him without even realising it until afterwards.

Niall and Michelle were explaining their plight to Ray D’Arcy this morning – Ray had contacted them after they had e-mailed into the show – when O’Driscoll came on the line to say hello to make up for their disappointment on Saturday night and subsequently chatted away to Ray about last weekend and the big one in Paris this weekend.

You can hear the audio in full by clicking on the link below, but be warned that, in this week of all weeks, your heart might melt on hearing what was a lovely gesture by Ireland’s greatest ever player.

What a man, what a legend.
