Ballinagh GAA substitute pens brilliant open letter retiring from Gaelic Football

Tony Cuddihy

He’ll be missed.

Damian O’Reilly gave his life to Ballinagh GAA, and all he got in return was his place on the bench as “that bollox wouldn’t bring me on.”

So begins the best retirement letter in the history of sport, full of tears, sadness, Saturday nights sacrificed, shoulders, injuries and free gear.

Damian, wherever you are, enjoy the fruits of retirement and go easy on your parents, they love you, bad knees or not.

A statement on behalf of myself:It is with immense regret and profound sadness that I am penning this letter…
