Leeds United striker Jermaine Beckford is on the verge of signing for Everton on a free transfer.

Everton are on the brink of signing Leeds United striker Jermaine Beckford on a free transfer.

Beckford hit 30 goals for Leeds last season as they secured promotion to the Championship but it is now highly likely that the striker will play in the Premier League with the Toffees next season.

It has been reported that the prolific attacker travelled to Goodison Park to finalise contract terms and complete a medical.

Leeds United manager Simon Grayson has pleaded with the 26-year-old to remain at Elland Road but the prospect of top flight football has proved too tempting.

Beckford, a former part-time player with Wealdstone, has risen through the ranks of the English football leagues and memorably grabbed the headlines in January of this year when his goal provided victory over Manchester United in the third round of the FA Cup.
