Carlin Isles signs for Glasgow Warriors, could make debut against Leinster

JOE

The fastest rugby player in the world could be headed to the RDS on March 1, after a deal with Glasgow Warriors was confirmed overnight.

After being linked with the likes of Toulon, and Leinster, and signing an NFL deal with the Detroit Lions, it seems that the biggest name in Rugby Sevens, American flyer Carlin Isles, is not giving up on the XV-a-side game just yet.

Reports from US sources overnight say that the speedster has put pen to paper on a deal to join the Glasgow Warriors with immediate effect. He will continue to play Sevens for the US, and his future with the Detroit Lions is still part of the plan, but a spell at 15-man rugby is going to be tried out too.

Isles is known as the fastest man in rugby, and a quick look at some of his Sevens highlights will show you that he is insanely fast. But he almost no experience of the 15-man game bar a few games for a team in San Diego a while back.

Glasgow brought in Isles’ USA Sevens team-mate Folau Niua last week so he will have a friendly face around Scotstoun and according to reports he is set to head to Europe ‘next week’.

If that is the case, then the first game on the Warriors slate is a trip to the RDS to play Leinster on March 1. Will the 24-year-old get his shot to shine in Dublin? Here’s hoping and it is certainly a coup for the Rabo to have Isles on board.
