The semi-finals served up some scintillating football and as per usual, there were some things we loved and some things we hated…
Juventus took the lead in Turin, while Barcelona crushed Bayern. Here’s what we loved and what we hated.
LOVE
Lionel Messi’s magic
Is he the best ever? We certainly think so.
Two goals and an assist against one of the best defences on the planet during the Champions League semi-final would also suggest he’s the best.
Here’s him in his element.
Juventus and their old warriors
Buffon, Pirlo and Chiellini, three players who should be past their best. Yet, they were all there to help Juventus overcome last year’s champions, Real Madrid. Truly amazing.
Hate
Jérôme Boateng’s defending
We’re not saying we’d do any better, but that was just embarrassing.
Watch it in slow motion and you can see the exact moment when Messi reaches over and takes Boateng’s batteries out.

Franz Beckenbauer views on Mario Gotze
The German legend said this of the forward: “He behaves and moves around on the pitch like a youth player. He just stops moving when he loses a duel. This is the behaviour of a child.
This kind of behaviour does not fit in at Bayern. It is time for him to grow up.
He has shown at Dortmund what he can do and we know that he is a great talent. But there is still something missing.”
Ah come on Franz, he scored the winner in the World Cup final.
So that was what we loved and what we hated from this week’s Champions League.
