Champions League Love/Hate: The best and worst from this week’s action

Some good and some bad

JOE

Real won the battle of Madrid, Juventus held off Monaco, Bayern crushed Porto and Barcelona cruised past PSG.

There was plenty of action in the Champions League this week. Here are some things we loved and some other things we hated.

LOVE

Javier Hernandez back on top

His goal against Atletico sent Real Madrid to the semi-final and sent Hernández back into the shop window.

The Mexican striker will surely be leaving his parent club, Manchester United, during the summer. This was the perfect way to advertise his predatorial abilities.

Juventus are back at the top table

The Serie A has taken a lot of slack from the so-called experts in recent years.

Some of the criticism has been justified, some hasn’t. Juventus’ performances this season have done a great deal to restore respect to the league.

They are now in the semi-final for the first time in 12 years and we wouldn’t back against them going one step further. Even if they are up against Real Madrid. Eek.

Hate

Porto crumbling

Bayern were outstanding and we’re not trying to take anything away from their amazing performance.

However, we’re pretty sure we could have whipped together a team from our local astroturf and given Porto a good game given the way they played on the night.

Poor PSG

We also expected much, much more from PSG.

Instead, they feebly gave in to the might of Barcelona and Neymar.
