The Chelsea juggernaut rolls on in the Premier League and after a weekend which saw the Blues hit their 12th goal of the season and their 29th in five league games, Ancelotti’s men continue to dominate the Fantasy Premier League charts.

Didier Drogba may not have got on the scoresheet against a miserable Wigan side at the DW, but his three assists and two bonus points contributed to a 13-point total for the Ivorian, which leaves him on a handy total of 30 points after Gameweek Two, eleven points clear of his nearest challenger in the striking department, Newcastle’s Andy Carroll.

In the midfield stakes, Florent Malouda leads the way after another goalscoring performance this weekend. A clean sheet and a bonus point yielded nine points for the Frenchman, who currently lies on 24 points. Staying with Chelsea, and a second consecutive clean sheet means that Ashley Cole remains the leading defender on 15 points, with Micah Richards hot on his heels on 14 points after receiving an assist for Carlos Tevez’s strike against Liverpool at Eastlands.

Richards’ Man City teammate Joe Hart continued his impressive start to the season and a series of saves and a clean sheet against Roy Hodgson’s side earned Shay Given’s nemesis seven points for this gameweek and leaves him on top of the goalkeeping charts on 19 points. That’s three clear of Bolton’s Jussi Jaaskelainen, who made a series of saves, including a penalty, against West Ham which earned the Finn nine points.

Other big movers this weekend included hat-trick heroes Andy Carroll and Theo Walcott, with 17 and 21 points respectively, while Paul Scholes continued his recent renaissance with a ten-point haul for his performance against Fulham. Two goals for Gareth Bale earned the Welshman 15 points, the same total acquired by Kevin Nolan thanks to a brace against Aston Villa. The much maligned Johan Elmander, meanwhile, also deserves an honourable mention for two goals and an assist against West Ham at Upton Park, which earned the big man 14 points.

As mentioned above, Dermot Groarke leads the way in the J-League after his side, Table Toppers, earned 75 points for the second week in a row. Chelsea duo Florent Malouda (as captain) and Nicolas Anelka provided 31 points for Dermot, who also had goalscorers Brede Hangeland, Gareth Bale, Paul Scholes and Marouane Chamakh in his side.

Hot on his heels in second place is Brendan Walsh’s Team Actimel, who thundered into second place after 77 points this weekend. Brendan also had Malouda and Anelka (as captain) in his starting eleven, as well as Gareth Bale and Carlos Tevez, but he will be ruing his decision to leave Fulham’s Brede Hangeland on the bench.

A man who also racked up 77 points this gameweek was Thomas Gleeson, whose selection, Scouser F.C., included Chelsea trio Frank Lampard (captain), Florent Malouda and Nicolas Anelka, as well as Gareth Bale, Marouane Chamakh and Birmingham ‘keeper, Ben Foster, who delivered a virtuoso display between the sticks against Blackburn.

Special mention must go to David Freeman’s selection Far East Far Out FC, who, after propping up the table last week, rocketed up to eighth place after a whopping 97 points in Gameweek Two. The points total of David’s back five was pretty unremarkable, but his front six of Bale, Scholes, Nolan, Cahill, Drogba and Tevez yielded a massive 87 points between them.

A lack of communication in the JOE Towers resulted in a horrible slump to 36th place in the table after somebody forgot to implement the planned changes of Didier Drogba and Marlon Harewood for injured duo Robbie Keane and Wayne Rooney.

A pretty miserable 44-point return was our lot for this gameweek. Had the changes been put in place, we would currently be 11 points better off and sitting pretty in 18th place but that’s neither here nor there, because Emmet Purcell is directing operations this week and has promised a swift return back up the table.

Keep in touch for tips on who to select next weekend in Fantasy Football Insider which will be in the football section this Thursday.
