Fourth and longshot; JOE’s NFL bets Week 7

Will it be lucky number (Week) 7 for us? Here's hoping

Will it be lucky number (Week) 7 for us? Here’s hoping

Last week we vowed to stay away from the New England Patriots as we had no clue as to their form and stick with some other big name favourites.

While Denver did the business for us, via a very lucky last play pick six, San Diego only beat the Raiders by 3 (we needed 7) while the Falcons contrived to lose to the Bears, meaning we can add them to the list of teams we are completely confused by.

The Week 7 slate has a few crackers, including the blockbuster meeting of the Broncos and the 49ers in Denver, but we think we have found some bets to make us a few bob.

As always, all our odds are courtesy of Ladbrokes.

This week’s treble

Indianapolis Colts (-3) to beat the Cincinnati Bengals, 4/5

Seattle Seahawks (-7) to beat the St Louis Rams, 20/23

Dallas Cowboys (-6.5) to beat the New York Giants, 20/23

This will return around 11/2 to you if it comes in and we think it has a great shot. The Colts only defeat at home this season was a late collapse to the Eagles in Week 2. Since then they have been unbeaten home or away, managed to make Trent Richardson look like a servicable player and Andrew Luck is only 13 yards away from the 2,000 yard mark after just six weeks. After a rare tie last week, I think the Bengals will come unstuck on the road.

Seattle’s defeat, at home, to the Cowboys was a shock last week but Dallas are on a hot streak right now. Pete Carroll’s team will be steaming that they lost at home and they will take that frustration out on the Rams, who have the most useless pass rudh in the business, with just one sack in five games. Russell Wilson should have a field day on Sunday.

Finally, how ’bout those Cowboys? Showing signs of being a really good team after years of mediocrity, Jerry Jones might finally have a side capable of matching his grand ideas. The Giants juggernaut came off the rails in some style against the Eagles last week, and we think the Dallas momentum will keep them at bay in this big divisional clash.

Total points bet of the week

Carolina Panthers v Green Bay Packers, Over 49.5, 10/11

Carolina and Cincinnati delivered for us handsomely last week in this slot and we’re backing the Panthers to help us out again this week. Green Bay rack up big numbers each week, and leak a lot the other way too. Carolina are also powerful on offence, and conceded a tasty 37 last week to Cincy. We’ve called this bet correctly for the last few weeks so we are very confident this one will do the business too.

Upset pick

Tennessee Titans (+5.5) to beat the Washington Football Team, 10/11

The less said about last week’s upset pick (Giants to beat the Eagles) the better but we hope we have a wiser choice this week. These are two bad teams, and Washington have home advantage but they simply don’t score enough and they produce lots of turnovers at the very worst times. It is a bad combo.

QB Kirk Cousins could be benched, meaning Colt McCoy may start but we don’t have much faith in him either. The Titans QB, be it Jake Locker or Charlie Whitehurst, will also be pretty rubbish but they may just benefit from the generosity of the Washington offense.
