Gavin Henson punched by new team mate in pub brawl [Now with video]

Life at new club Bath not exactly off to the best of starts for the Welsh rugby player.

Life at new club Bath not exactly off to the best of starts for the Welsh rugby player.

When Gavin Henson made the move from London Welsh to Premiership side Bath recently we wondered just how many more chances the former Mr Church would get in professional rugby. If reports in today’s Bath Chronicle are to be believed he may have burned through another.

ESPN carries the story from the local paper which alleges that Hanson was punched by a team-mate in the Pig and Fiddle pub in Bath earlier this week.

Police were called but the group left before they arrived. One eyewitness describes the actions of the group as “disgusting” and Bath’s chief Exec Nick Blofeld has started to investigate. “We are speaking to all those involved to clarify the situation,” he said. “When we have all the facts, we will make any appropriate statement.”

Since his high-flying days in the Welsh national team in the mid-2000s Henson has become better known for off-field antics. His time in Toulon ended after a fight with a team-mate and he was sacked by Cardiff after a drunken incident on a plane.

Add in his tendency to get injured and it looks like the gamble Bath took may backfire before the season even begins.

UPDATE: Now there’s video of the incident… some punch…
