Heineken Cup winners Toulon to play a combined rugby/soccer match against Marseille

Oh how we wish that Joey Barton was around to be tackled by Bakkies Botha.

Oh how we wish that Joey Barton was around to be tackled by Bakkies Botha.

In a brilliant idea a very novel sporting event will be taking place in France next week. European rugby champs Toulon, a side stuffed with stars from Jonny Wilkinson to Bryan Habana, are going to try their hand at soccer.

In a charity game next week Toulon will play Marseille from Ligue 1. According to the reports, one half will be rugby, the other will be soccer.

We don’t know which we would like to see more, the massive rugby lads trying to play a bit of ball or the smaller soccer lads trying to hit rucks and make tackles.

As for the scoring system, your guess is as good as mine.

And in case that wasn’t interestig enough, the two referees for the game will be Eric Cantona and Marc Lievremont. It sounds fantastic so hopefully some broadcaster will pick it up so we can see it over here.

Toulon Marseille

Sadly Joey Barton has returned to QPR so he won’t be there to take part…
