People noticed.
There was a marked difference in the performance level of Ireland during their 2-2 draw with Serbia, especially when measured against the Euro 2016 games against France and Italy.
Daryl Murphy’s goal in Belgrade could yet prove to be crucial but Ireland’s concentration, passing and intensity levels were markedly different in the Red Star Stadium when compared to the thrilling matches in Lille and Lyon.
This wasn’t the only change that fans noticed on their TV’s though because a lot of people were remarking about RTÉ using match graphics that said ‘European Qualifiers’ as opposed to ‘World Cup’ ones.
Any chance you'd update your graphics? @rte we are a bit past the European qualifies

Can someone tell RTE's Graphics Dept that Ireland/Serbia is a WC Qualifier, not the Euros #IrelandvSerbia

You've had half the summer to get the graphics ready for the World Cup qualifiers. For shame, RTÉ. For shame. pic.twitter.com/rbL35D5nzU

It seems that people were too quick to point the finger of blame at the staff in Montrose though because this choice of graphic was actually decided by the bigwigs in UEFA.
As always, RTÉ provided a live matchtracker for tonight’s match and they took the time to answer these queries. They said: “Thanks for all the tweets pointing out that it’s the World Cup and not the Euros folks. We had indeed noticed that but UEFA have decided to brand this part of the process ‘European Qualifiers’ so we are obliged to use those graphics. All complaints to Gianni Infantino!”.
See, it’s this guy who’s to blame. Mystery solved.
