He was sick during the game but was at the Aviva regardless.

Ireland coach Joe Schmidt is being treated in hospital for suspected appendicitis, an IRFU spokesperson has revealed.

The Kiwi ‘manned up’ to attend the 26-23 win over Australia but had been sick all day.

Ireland’s assistant coaches Les Kiss and Simon Easterby are dealing with media duties until the health of Schmidt can be sussed out.

Kiss says Schmidt had been under the weather all day but “toughed it out for the game.”

“The guys were aware he was sick; he was kind of stand-offish,” said Ireland captain Paul O’Connell.
