The Ireland team to play Argentina in Wednesday night’s friendly at the Aviva Stadium has been named.

Robbie Keane will captain the side in his 100th international cap and will be partnered up front by Kevin Doyle.

Shay Given will start in goal, behind a back four of Paul McShane, Richard Dunne, John O’Shea and Kevin Kilbane.

Paul Green will win his third cap alongside Keith Andrews in the centre of midfield, with Liam Lawrence and Damien Duff occupying the flanks.

There are slight doubts over the fitness of Richard Dunne and Kevin Doyle, so Cillian Sheridan and Darren O’Dea are on standby.

Marco Tardelli took charge of training on Tuesday, but remains hopeful that Giovanni Trapattoni will be in charge for tomorrow night’s game, despite the fact that he was hospitalised in the early hours of Tuesday morning with a bout of food poisoning.

“I think everything is okay and he will be in the dugout. He is very strong,” said Tardelli.

Robbie Keane is also hopeful that Trapattoni will be fit to take charge against Argentina.

‘We are all hoping he will be fit,” he said.

“It won’t be the same without him.”

Kick off at the Aviva Stadium is at 7.45 pm on Wednesday evening.
