JOE’s 2014 Gaelic Football All-Star team

Forget the actual All-Star team that was selected earlier today, here’s who really should be getting the awards tomorrow night… in our opinion.

Earlier this week, we brought you the team that we think will be named as the hurling All-Stars tomorrow night and we were going to do something similar with the footballers but they got there before us.

Undeterred, we decided to press on with our own selection and though it’s remarkably similar to an All-Star team that we didn’t have much of an issue with, the debate amongst the JOE selection team did throw up a few curveballs.

All of the selection comm-mitt-tea were in agreement about the make-up of the midfield and the full-forward line but there was a fair bit of needle about the identity of those in the back six – Aidan O’Mahony and Colm Boyle were high-profile omissions – while there were a few players – Ryan McHugh, Donnchadh Walsh and Aidan O’Shea, for example – who were unlucky not to get into a star-studded half-forward line.

Judging by the response of our Facebook followers earlier today, the inclusion of Kieran Donaghy appeared to be a bone of contention for some, but we should state that ‘Star’ was a unanimous choice in JOE Towers, simply because of his gigantic impact in the last three games, without which Sam would not be spending the winter in the Kingdom.

It’s all a matter of opinion, of course, and you, dear reader, are entitled to yours, so if you disagree with our selection, feel free to let us know in the comment box below.
