JOE once scored five goals in a football match… granted, it was a five-a-side and we were playing the local under 12s team. And they only had three.
Nonetheless, we were quite chuffed. We can only imagine how Luiz Adriano felt after scoring five in a Champions League match for Shakhtar Donetsk against BATE Borisov.
The 27 year-old Brazilian is only the second player to ever score five goals in Champions League match. Who is the other, you ask? It’s one Lionel Messi. Not bad company to be joining. Not bad at all.
Adriano opened the scoring after 28 minutes with a fine penalty. Then scored two more to complete his hat-trick within twelve minutes.

Not content with scoring the third quickest hat-trick in Champions League history, the striker went onto score two more in Shakhtar’s 7-0 rout. Not a bad evening’s work at all.
By the way, Adriano cost Shakhtar approximately twelve and half million pounds less than Mario Balotelli cost Liverpool… just saying.
