League of Ireland

This is properly brilliant news.

The Football Association of Ireland (FAI) has announced that the embargo on League of Ireland clubs sharing video footage of goals and highlights from their own games before Soccer Republic airs on Monday night.

The move has been greeted with widespread celebration by fans of the domestic league, as it means fans will have faster and permanent access to footage from league games.

A statement, issued today by the FAI, confirms: “RTE have removed the embargo on clubs promoting their own sourced goal footage until after the Soccer Republic show on a Monday night.”

The decision followed talks today between league officials and RTÉ sport.

RTÉ came in for criticism over their approach to broadcasting the League of Ireland this week when it became clear that the national broadcaster would not be hosting the “Dublin derby” between Bohs and Shamrock Rovers.

Even so, today’s news that your social feed will soon be flooded with goals and highlights provided by homegrown talent — which can only mean good things for Irish football.
