Irish viewers will not have to pay to see Katie Taylor step into the ring for what is expected to be the final fight of her career, after RTÉ has secured the domestic rights to the highly anticipated bout.
The Bray native will take on Flora Pili at Croke Park on Saturday, 5 September, with the fight airing live on RTÉ2 and available to stream on the RTÉ Player.
Fans who want to listen rather than watch will also be able to follow the action through 2FM’s live radio coverage.
The 42 reports that the agreement was reached after talks between RTÉ, Aiken Promotions, Matchroom and DAZN, which will show the event to an international audience through its subscription platform.
Demand for Taylor’s farewell has already been huge, with tickets for the sold-out event disappearing within hours. Around 80,000 people are expected at Croke Park, making it one of the biggest boxing events ever staged in Ireland.
The coverage will begin before fight night, with RTÉ Sport also showing the official weigh-in and pre-fight press conference as part of its build-up to Taylor’s final bout.
RTÉ’s Head of Sport, Declan McBennett, said the broadcaster was delighted to be able to play a part in the final chapter of Taylor’s career, having followed her journey from its earliest days through to her farewell at Croke Park.
"RTÉ was there at the start of Katie’s journey as an amateur and we are delighted to be there for the final chapter. Katie is, and always will be, one of Ireland’s greatest ever sporting icons and it is fitting that she ends her illustrious career in Croke Park in front of a full stadium and a national audience."

Taylor has made it clear just how much the occasion means to her, describing the Croke Park showdown as “the fairytale ending I always wanted”. However, despite the excitement surrounding her farewell, she stressed that there is still a fight to be won on the night.
Matchroom chairman Eddie Hearn has also predicted a huge occasion, saying it will be “the night when Katie Taylor will bring Ireland to a standstill”.
