Keith Earls to miss four months due to surgery to his knee

The woes continue for Munster...

Munster have confirmed today that flying winger Keith Earls will be grounded for up to four months due to surgery to clear up a troublesome knee injury.

Earls met with a consultant in London today after attempts at conservative rehabilitation to his patellar tendon were unsuccessful and it was decided that surgery was the only course of action, according to a report from Munster.

The news will come as a bitter blow to the injury hit province, who already have Donnacha Ryan, Mike Sherry and Peter O’Mahony on the sidelines.

Munster have had an inauspicious start to their Pro 12 campaign with just two wins from a possible four. Victories over the lowly Zebre and Treviso sides have been anything but convincing.

Munster take on Leinster in an inter-pro derby this Saturday in the Aviva Stadium and will be hoping to bounce back following their loss to Ospreys last weekend. Tickets for the game are still available at Ticketmaster outlets and online.
