A sensational clash between Tipperary and Limerick ended with a 2-18 to 2-16 win for the Treaty County.

This was Limerick’s first win over Tipp at Semple Stadium since 1973, and the current Munster champions fully deserved a victory that was capped by an excellent second goal from Shane Dowling.

It was Dowling’s second goal of a pulsating encounter, with Tipp two strikes coming from Patrick Bonnar Maher and Gearoid Ryan.

The teams had gone into the half-time break level at 1-08 apiece, and it was nip and tuck throughout the second half.

There was a moment of controversy late on when a goal from Graeme Mulcahy was ruled out for a push by Dowling, with Limerick two points down at the time, but it didn’t matter as Dowling’s late stunner – with his back to goal – and points by Thomas Ryan and Seamus Hickey sealed the win for the visitors.
