Joe Canning produced some thunderous scores but for once it was a day when the Galway team effort outweighed the great man from Portumna.
Damien Hayes, Aidan Harte and Joe Gantley were all in fine scoring form for John McIntyre’s side at Semple Stadium as Cork were put to the sword on a 2-22 to 1-17 scoreline, while full back and captain Shane Kavanagh won the Man of the Match award.
Meanwhile, earlier in the day Wexford edged out Clare in Division 2, while on Saturday night Dublin’s U21 footballers survived late penalty drama to defeat Donegal by two points in the All-Ireland final in Cavan.
